Terms of use
These terms are the agreement between you and Layn Apps for your use of LAYN, free or paid. By using LAYN, you agree to them. Our Privacy Policy explains what LAYN does with your data.
Terms of use
Legal notice
- Publisher: Layn Apps, contact@layn.app.
- Publication director: Layn Apps.
- Hosting provider: Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, +49 9831 505-0.
- Contact: contact@layn.app, or the Contact page.
The service
LAYN is an artificial intelligence, not a person. It helps you learn and practise your faith, at your own pace: understanding and memorising the Quran, reciting it, praying on time and tracking your progress.
LAYN keeps evolving: features may be added, changed or removed. Features marked “beta” are still being tested and may make more mistakes.
To keep LAYN available to everyone, answers are subject to a daily limit, which depends on your plan and is lower for guests. The limit is checked at the start of an exchange, never midway: an answer that has started will always finish. Guest account creation and messages through the Contact page are also limited.
Eligibility
Accounts are for people aged 15 or over. Younger users will be able to use LAYN through a profile managed by a parent, which is not available yet.
To subscribe to a paid plan, you must be an adult or have a parent’s permission.
Your account
You can start writing right away, without an account: LAYN creates a guest account, which is deleted after 30 days without use. To keep your activity, sign in with a passkey, Google, Apple or your email: what you did as a guest moves into your account.
LAYN stores no passwords. Keep access to your account to yourself; you can sign out any device, or all of them, at any time. If you think someone else has accessed your account, write to contact@layn.app.
Acceptable use
- Do not use LAYN to break the law, or to harass, threaten, deceive or harm anyone.
- Do not try to bypass its limits or safeguards, or to access another person’s account or data.
- Do not automate or scrape LAYN (bots, scripts, bulk extraction), and do not use its answers to train other models.
- Do not present an answer from LAYN as the opinion of a scholar or a person, or as a fatwa.
- Do not resell access to LAYN or share your account beyond what your plan allows.
LAYN may decline requests that break these terms or fall outside its purpose. In case of abuse, Layn Apps may suspend or close an account (see “Suspension and termination”).
Religious content
- LAYN is not a scholar and does not issue fatwas. For a question about your own situation, consult a scholar you trust.
- LAYN cites its sources. Each text keeps its licence and origin, listed on the Sources page.
- Calculations (prayer times, qibla, zakat) apply established rules and the choices you make (method, school of thought); check them before any important decision.
- Recitation is in beta: a mistake is highlighted in red on the word, and LAYN does not assess the finer rules of tajwid. It is not a substitute for a teacher.
AI output
Answers are generated by an artificial intelligence model, which can make mistakes, misquote, or state something false with confidence. LAYN flags what it could not verify: always check the cited source before relying on an answer.
Answers are not religious, medical, legal or financial advice. If you are in danger or distress, contact emergency services or someone you trust.
Your content and ours
- What you write remains yours. You grant Layn Apps only the licence needed to provide the service: to store it, process it and pass it to the providers listed in our Privacy Policy.
- You may use LAYN’s answers freely, while respecting the licences of the texts they cite.
- LAYN’s software, name and design belong to Layn Apps. Texts keep their own licences (Sources page). The QPC fonts are © King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran, used under the Quran Foundation’s terms.
Paid plans
- LAYN offers a free plan and two paid plans, LAYN Plus and LAYN Family, billed monthly or yearly. What each plan includes and its price are shown in LAYN (Plans) before you pay.
- Payments are processed by Stripe on its secure checkout page. Prices in euros include all taxes; prices in dollars exclude taxes, which Stripe adds based on your address.
- Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, at the same price, until you cancel. Before a yearly plan renews, Layn Apps must remind you one to three months in advance; if it does not, you may cancel free of charge at any time after the renewal, and the amount already paid for the remaining period will be refunded (French Consumer Code, Art. L215-1).
- You can cancel in a few clicks, at any time: Plans, then “Cancel”. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and your plan stays active until then. You can also pause your subscription (the free plan applies and nothing is charged) and resume it later.
- You can switch plans or billing periods in “Manage my subscription”: the difference is prorated.
- If a payment fails, Stripe retries it; your plan stays active for 7 days, after which your account moves to the free plan. Moving to the free plan does not delete anything you have done: only the limits change.
- Price changes apply only to new subscriptions; if a new price were to apply to yours, you would be notified at least 30 days before the renewal concerned and could cancel beforehand. Except for the right of withdrawal, and unless the law provides otherwise, a billing period that has started is not refunded.
The 14-day trial
When you create an account, LAYN gives you 14 days of LAYN Plus, with no card and no commitment. When the trial ends, your account moves to the free plan automatically: nothing is charged, nothing is lost, and you decide whether to subscribe. Each account gets one trial; guest accounts do not get one.
Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer, you have 14 days from subscribing to a paid plan to withdraw, without giving any reason. LAYN does not ask you to waive this right at checkout: you keep it in full, even if you have started using your plan.
To withdraw, write to contact@layn.app before the 14 days are over. You may use this model: “To Layn Apps, contact@layn.app: I hereby give notice that I withdraw from my contract for my LAYN subscription, taken out on (date), in the name of (name), with the email address (address) used at checkout. Date: (date).”
Layn Apps will then refund everything you paid, using the same payment method, no later than 14 days after receiving your request, and your account will move to the free plan.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using LAYN at any time, and export or delete your data (see our Privacy Policy). Deleting your account also cancels your Stripe subscription, immediately.
Layn Apps may suspend or close an account that seriously breaches these terms or the law, or that puts the service or other people at risk. Except in an emergency or where the law requires otherwise, we will tell you why, if LAYN can reach you, and you can respond at contact@layn.app.
If Layn Apps discontinues LAYN, or closes your account through no fault of yours, we will notify you at least 30 days in advance where possible, you will be able to export your data, and any amount paid for an unused period will be refunded.
Warranties and liability
LAYN is provided with care, but without a guarantee of uninterrupted availability: maintenance or outages may interrupt it.
You benefit from the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content and services (French Consumer Code, Art. L224-25-12 et seq.): if LAYN does not work as described, write to contact@layn.app.
Layn Apps is liable for direct and foreseeable damage caused by a breach of its obligations, unless the damage results from your own fault, the act of a third party or force majeure. Nothing in these terms excludes its liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or limits your statutory rights.
Changes to these terms
Layn Apps may update these terms, for example when LAYN changes or when the law requires it. The current version is dated at the top of this page. If we make a material change, you will be notified in the app: the notice linking to these texts reappears, and continuing to message LAYN means you accept the change. If you do not accept it, you can cancel your subscription or delete your account.
Governing law, disputes and mediation
These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer living in another EU country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of your country.
If you have a complaint, please write to contact@layn.app first, and we will work with you to resolve it. If we cannot, you may refer the matter to a consumer mediator free of charge. Consumer mediator: appointment in progress.
You may also bring the matter before the competent court; as a consumer, the court where you live.
The iOS app
If you use LAYN through its iOS app, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies.
General
If any part of these terms is found invalid, the rest remains in effect. Not enforcing a right does not mean waiving it. These terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and Layn Apps regarding LAYN.
